Goals & Advocacy
My Dreams For The World
-
Equitable housing for all (one house fire is enough, thanks)
-
LGBTQ+ rights & liberation
-
Racial justice & liberation
-
Wealth redistribution for lasting social justice (no starving artists here)
How My 6+ Year Artistic Career Helps Me Get There
Theatre and creative writing have prepared me to do well in:
-
Event organizing (once a stage manager, always a stage manager)
-
Digital communications (use those storytelling skills)
-
Advocacy (especially housing, LBGTQ+ rights)
-
Basebuilding & fundraising (the arts run on collective support. Producing = big ask + human-centered connection + gathering people behind a cause)
-
Training leaders (so that the movement expands and can last beyond my efforts)
-
Walking with people through tough emotions (I teach people how to swing swords and perform intense emotions in public. Vulnerable stuff. Not to mention navigating the power dynamics: both of the characters and of the real people in the room)
-
Balancing self-directed and collective-forward projects (auditioning for future shows while working on a show with a team while writing a show for myself while balancing a day job, etc)
-
Lifelong learner (every role requires research. It's fun to stay curious!)
-
Relationship/community building (theatre is a strong anti-loneliness tool. Plus, being curious about people = natural networker from a human-centered value. Everyone has a valuable story, regardless/because of their unique background)
-
Shared power structures (I've co-directed, co-written, co-fight-directed...it's more fun as a team. More cool ideas to build with)
Projects I've Worked On
-
Post-show social hours to build community (Blanket Fort Theatre)
-
Organizing food drives for birthday celebrations
